Synergy Forum 2018
Inspiring lectures and vivid discussions
Around 50 scientists from 11 countries discussed the current state of the art of synergy research at the Synergy Forum convened on March 9 and 10, 2018 at Bonn, Germany. Upon invitation of organizer Dr. Gudrun Ulrich-Merzenich of University Hospital Bonn, AG Synergy Research and Experimental Medicine, many of the internationally leading scientists in this still young field of life sciences delivered high-calibre lectures covering the entire gamut of synergy research: from the historical and methodical evolution of the definition(s) and quantification(s) of synergy to contemporary preclinical and clinical applications of synergistic and combinatory therapy approaches, from natural medicines to „hightech“ treatments and from novel bioinformatic and system biologic methods for the assessment and prediction of synergistic effects of compounds to the challenges of creating appropriate regulatory framework conditions for future routine applications of combinatory or synergistic drug therapies.
The active participation of speakers and participants from the fields of Medicine, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics created an interdisciplinary, holistic and vivid discourse which was also favoured by the intentionally limited size of the Synergy Forum.
After two days of inspiring interactions at the Uniclub Bonn the participants concluded that the Synergy Forum 2018 was a highly successful and valuable starting point towards an „inventory“ of the current understanding and activities of synergy research. It was advocated to establish – in addition to the Synergy journal – the Synergy Forum as platform for personalised exchange and discourse. So further Synergy Forums will take place in the near future.
